Walgreens CEO says he's open to expansion of Humana partnership on senior health clinics

Senior health clinics operated by Walgreens and Humana have been operating in Kansas City for three months, and Walgreens CEO Stefano Pessina said that he is open to expanding the project beyond a pilot if the partnership proves to be successful, according to Forbes.

Mr. Pessina said the companies are evaluating whether they will move the partnership forward as a joint venture, commercial agreement, or other means. The senior health clinics combine the prescription service offered by Walgreens with Humana's primary care.

"If the concept works, we intend to expand that concept," said Mr. Pessina. "I am very curious to see what will happen and how these tests will work. The first reactions of people have been very, very good."

Though Walgreens competitor CVS recently closed its acquisition of Aetna, Mr. Pessina said his company is more interested in partnering with an insurer than buying one outright.
