Vermont issues cease and desist orders against 5 unlicensed health insurance sellers

Vermont officials handed a cease and desist order to four groups and one individual selling unlicensed health insurance, according to the VTDigger.

The Vermont Department of Financial Regulation ordered the Vermont Alliance for Health Care Alternatives, its national organization Small Association Leadership Alliance, the National Association of Senior Move Managers and Sedera Health to stop selling insurance. One person, Susan Stasny, who is the executive director of the Vermont chapter of VAHCA, also was ordered to stop selling health plans.

Under Vermont law, all health insurers need a state license. As the groups and individual didn't have one, the department claims they violated state law. The department also accused the groups of deceptively marketing unlicensed health plans, according to the VTDigger

The department gave the groups 30 days to petition the order and schedule a hearing on the matter.
