UPMC Pinnacle signs narrow-network agreement with Aetna

Harrisburg, Pa.-based UPMC Pinnacle and Aetna extended an existing accountable care agreement to include hospitals recently acquired by the hospital system, according to the Central Penn Business Journal.

The organizations' accountable care agreement dates back to 2014. Under the arrangement, Aetna policyholders can access hospitals in UPMC Pinnacle's system at lower costs, in exchange for a smaller network of providers.

The agreement now includes Pennsylvania-based UPMC Pinnacle hospitals in Carlisle, Hanover, Lancaster, Lititz and York, as well as two associated physician groups.

Andrew Richard, vice president of Aetna provider networks, said in a press release obtained by the Central Penn Business Journal, "Through accountable care relationships, we're working closer than ever with physicians and hospitals to make healthcare more affordable while improving quality and efficiency."
