UnitedHealth Group plans to increasingly work with physicians, health systems and the government to boost Medicare bundled payment programs.
Here are three things to know about the advancements.
1. UnitedHealth intends to extend analytics, technology and care coordination support to healthcare providers participating in bundled payment models. CMS' Bundled Payments for Care Improvement Advanced, which launches later this year, is one of the programs UnitedHealth wants to support.
2. "UnitedHealth Group's extensive experience using data and technology to help coordinate care and improve health outcomes positions the company as a strong partner for care providers participating in bundled payment programs," the company said. "This form of value-based care is a benefit both for the people needing treatment and the care providers delivering it, and UnitedHealth Group is committed to finding even more ways to expand its use."
3. The insurer's pledge comes as CMS canceled hip fracture and cardiac bundled payment programs and rolled back some mandatory requirements in the Comprehensive Care for Joint Replacement Model.
