UnitedHealth's Optum throws support behind at-home lab test startup in $12M funding round

Optum Ventures, an independent venture capitalist fund of UnitedHealth Group's Optum, led a $12 million funding round for LetsGetChecked, an at-home lab test startup.

Qiming Venture Partners, a Chinese venture capital firm, also led the funding, which LetsGetChecked intends to use to develop its technology platform and grow its clinical staff.

Founded by Peter Foley in 2014, LetsGetChecked allows users to do lifestyle testing, cancer screening, sexual health testing, and fertility and hormone testing at home. To use LetsGetChecked, a patient would order a lab test, and the company would send the test to the patient's home in days. The test kits don't have any patient identifiers, and all patient requests and results are reviewed by a physician.

Should a patient get positive or out-of-range results, a LetsGetChecked nurse would contact the patient to coordinate care.

"With easier access to testing, individuals can change how and when they are diagnosed, leading to better clinical outcomes," Mr. Foley said. "Our goal is to provide individuals with greater control of their health through accessible technology and to continue partnering with more labs and health systems, to bring more specialized testing direct to consumers."
