UnitedHealth expands bundled payment program: 3 things to know

UnitedHealthcare, the health insurance arm of UnitedHealth Group, will extend its bundled payment program to more than 30 states, the payer said April 10.

Three things to know:

1. The UnitedHealthcare Care Bundles Program will allow providers who treat the insurer's Medicare Advantage members to participate in bundled payment models for specific procedures. The procedures include hip and knee replacements, spinal fusions and coronary bypasses.

2. The program is in addition to the work UnitedHealthcare does with the federal Bundled Payments for Care Improvement Advanced program.

3. UnitedHealthcare said the program will allow participating providers to use the insurer's care management solutions and patient engagement tools, performance analytics and consulting, and payment administration services to improve care.
