UnitedHealth Group CEO David Wichmann earned nearly $17.4 million in 2017, which is 298 times more than the company's median employee, according to UnitedHealth's 2018 proxy statement.
Mr. Wichmann — who was elevated from UnitedHealth's president to the role of CEO on Sept. 1, 2017 — earned a $1.16 million base salary, $8.3 million in stock awards, $2.78 million in stock options, $4.9 million in cash incentive awards, and hundreds of thousands in company matching contributions.
In comparison, the median employee compensation at UnitedHealth in 2017 was $58,378.
In 2016, UnitedHealth's former CEO Stephen Hemsley, who stepped down Aug. 31, 2017, made $18.45 million.
