Trump administration hits back at Medicaid work requirement ruling

The Trump administration appealed a federal judge's March ruling that struck down Medicaid work requirements in Arkansas and Kentucky, according to the Lexington Herald-Leader.

The appeal, filed April 10, asks the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit to review the cases.

In a March 27 ruling, U.S. District Judge James Boasberg blocked Kentucky from implementing work requirements for Medicaid recipients and stopped Arkansas from continuing its Medicaid work requirement program. Mr. Boasberg said HHS' approval of work requirements is "arbitrary and capricious because it did not address ... how the project would implicate the 'core' objective of Medicaid: the provision of medical coverage to the needy."

It was the second time Mr. Boasberg struck down the Trump administration's move to require Medicaid beneficiaries to work to receive benefits.
