This new type of health insurer is going after millennials: 8 things to know

Zoom+, a medical provider and health insurer, is targeting millennials in Oregon and Washington with quick, accessible care as well as fitness, yoga and cooking classes, according to a Kaiser Health News report published in Money Magazine.

Here are eight things to know about Zoom.

1. The company serves patients in Portland, Ore., Seattle and Vancouver, Wash.

2. Zoom's goal is to offer patients convenient, affordable care in a hip and user-friendly environment, according to the report.

3. The company's retail clinics have prices posted on the walls. Waiting rooms do not have magazines because patients don't typically wait long enough to read.

4. Zoom, created by physicians Dave Sanders, MD, and Albert DiPiero, MD, has grown from a single clinic in Portland 10 years ago to more than 30 locations today.

5. The company recently began offering dental care, mental health services and chronic disease management, as well as appointments with cardiologists, dermatologists and other specialists, according to the report. Additionally, Zoom has opened a "performance studio" to help people reach their fitness goals, and a clinic that treats emergencies such as broken bones and concussions.

6. This year, Zoom began selling insurance through the Oregon health insurance exchange, Oregonhealthcare.gov.

7. People covered by Zoom insurance can get care at Zoom medical facilities or with Zoom partners, including Portland-based Oregon Health & Sciences University hospitals. However, Zoom does not see patients who are on Medicaid and Medicare.

8. Katherine Hempstead, director of coverage for the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, told Kaiser Health News Zoom is unique in that it is a network of retail clinics that has added an insurance arm, and Zoom's model is distinct because it is selling a branded experience to a specific population.
