Dallas-based Tenet Healthcare has entered into a new multiyear contract with health insurance company Cigna after 11 months of negotiations.
Tenet facilities in several states were set to go out of network with Cigna Jan. 1 if they failed to reach a new agreement. However, the two parties reached a deal before the deadline.
Under the new agreement, patients covered under Cigna's commercial health plans will have in-network access to Tenet providers, including hospitals, outpatient centers and employed physicians. Medicare beneficiaries who are insured by a Cigna-HealthSpring Medicare Advantage plan also have in-network access at all Tenet facilities.
"We are pleased to have reached a successful resolution with Cigna," Ron Rittenmeyer, executive chairman and CEO of Tenet, said in a press release. "We believe this is the right outcome for our patients, employees and communities, and we look forward to continuing to serve Cigna members around the country today and in years to come. We remain committed to providing them with the trusted, compassionate care they deserve."
