Sutter Health, Aetna to launch joint health plan

Sacramento, Calif.-based Sutter Health and Hartford, Conn.-based Aetna will offer a jointly-owned health plan to residents in northern California next year.

Under the joint venture, Sutter and Aetna will roll out commercial employer-based products beginning in mid-2018 in the Sacramento, Central Valley and Bay Area communities, with preferred provider organization policies to follow in early 2019. The plans require regulatory approval.

Sutter and Aetna said the joint health plan expands the companies' existing products and will ease administrative services.

"This joint venture will deliver a differentiated, personalized experience for members and is designed to help lower the cost of care, resulting in competitively priced products," the companies said.
