Prime Healthcare Services rescinds plans to terminate Anthem contract

Ontario, Calif.-based Prime Healthcare Services will remain in-network with Anthem Blue Cross after backtracking on plans to end its contract with the Indianapolis-based insurer hours after the decision was publicized, reports the Record Searchlight.

California's Valued Trust, an organization specializing in healthcare benefits for the state's education community, began notifying clients of the terminated contract Monday evening. Prime Healthcare reversed the decision hours later, according to the report.

Prime Healthcare spokesperson Elizabeth Nikels told Record Searchlight the provider, which operates 44 acute care hospitals across 14 states, will remain in-network with Anthem. She did not say why the termination was initiated, though the payer and provider have a history of contract disputes, according to the report.

Anthem spokesperson Darrel Ng also confirmed Prime Healthcare backpedaled on its decision to end the contract. He said no policyholders will be affected.

"We look forward to maintaining our longstanding relationship with Anthem Blue Cross and continuing our negotiations to reach mutually acceptable agreements in the best interest of our patients, physicians and members of the community," Ms. Nikels said in a prepared statement to the Record Searchlight.
