Phoenix Children's, BCBS extend deadline for new contract

Phoenix Children's Hospital and Blue Cross Blue Shield of Arizona agreed to extend their current contract through Dec. 15 as they negotiate a new agreement, according to KTAR News.

The organizations had hoped to reach an agreement by Dec. 1. If no deal is reached by the deadline, Phoenix Children's will no longer be in network with the insurer.

A Phoenix Children's spokesperson told KTAR News Nov. 30 that roughly 31,000 families have been notified of the changes that may ensue if the hospital is dropped from the insurer's network.

However, the spokesperson told the publication Phoenix Children's is "still optimistic that we'll reach an agreement and will share network updates with BCBSAZ members as they become available."
