Payers trust health systems more than health systems trust insurers, survey finds

On a 100-point scale, health system executives ranked their trust in health plans at 52, according to a ReviveHealth survey

The 11th Annual ReviveHealth Trust Index comprised 1,369 responses from consumers, physicians, hospital and health system executives and insurance executives. Using a 100-point scale, the index measured characteristics like honesty, fairness and reliability. It then weighed scores to commute a number between one and 100.

Physicians' trust in payers registered at 55.8 on the scale. In comparison, health insurers' trust in health systems scored higher than either physicians' or health systems' trust in payers at 68.4.

The survey also found more than 38 percent of health plan executives said contract negotiations between providers prove harder each year. For providers, 63 percent of health system respondents said further consolidation of health plans would have an "entirely" or "mostly" negative affect on their operations.
