The Ohio Department of Medicaid will be launching its state program in July 2022, including changes to rules and how it spends its $20 billion budget.
Under the changes, insurance companies will be responsible for care coordination, service access and connecting members with community resources, the Dayton Daily News reported Aug. 26.
"Our priority since the beginning of this administration has been on doing this right for the people we serve," said Maureen Corcoran, Ohio Medicaid director. "A July 2022 go-live gives us time to support and inform our members about the new program, to work with community leaders, and respond to the feedback received from the plans and providers."
The new July 2022 launch goal was pushed back from an earlier goal of January 2022. That deadline was delayed because of COVID-19.
New efforts associated with the overhaul include revising paperwork for providers, implementing pharmacy reform and protecting parent custody when they cannot afford mental healthcare for their children.
Dayton-based CareSource, UnitedHealthcare, Humana, Molina, AmeriHealth Caritas, Buckeye Health Plan, and Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield will all be part of the revised program when it launches.
