Navajo Nation to create managed care organization with Molina

The Navajo Nation is looking to launch its own managed care organization in New Mexico through an agreement with Molina Healthcare.

The managed care organization has been in the works for the past decade. The Navajo Nation's business arm, the Naat'aanii Development Corp., outlined its proposal in a September white paper, indicating the program would be available to 75,000 Navajos living in New Mexico.

The managed care organization will be one of the first entities in the nation to manage Medicaid benefits for a Native American population. As part of the program, the Navajo Nation will accept financial risk for the delivery system.

Molina Healthcare plans to contract with the Navajo Nation on its managed care offering under New Mexico's Medicaid program.
