Molina Healthcare CFO Joseph White to retire; Thomas Tran to take over

Molina Healthcare has named Thomas L. Tran CFO and treasurer, effective June 4. He succeeds Joseph W. White, who is retiring after 15 years with Molina.

Mr. White took over as CFO in May 2017, after the insurer ousted John Molina. Mr. Molina was fired, along with his brother, longtime CEO J. Mario Molina, MD, after the company suffered months of financial difficulties. Mr. White was previously Molina's chief accounting officer.

Mr. Tran takes over as the company continues to struggle financially. Molina's operating loss widened to $269 million in the fourth quarter of 2017, compared to an operating loss of $6 million in the same period a year prior.

Mr. Tran most recently was CFO for Sentry Data Systems. With more than 35 years of healthcare experience, he also has served as CFO of WellCare Health Plans and in leadership at Blue Cross & Blue Shield of Massachusetts and Cigna.
