'Medicare for All' hearing: 3 quick takeaways  

The House Ways and Means Committee held a hearing June 12 on "Medicare for All." 

The Hill called the hearing "mostly partisan and light on substance." Here are three quick takeaways: 

1. Democrats do not agree on Medicare for All. Some prefer to keep the ACA and build upon it, and this was evident during the hearing. This also pushed Democrats' focus to fighting with Republicans, according to the report. 

2. Republicans kept critiques high-level, comparing Medicare for All plans to failed universal healthcare systems abroad and pointing to the potential costs of the program. 

3. The hearing was significant because it was the first held by a committee with authority over healthcare policy.
