Kentucky sees insurance fraud cases rise 800% in 2016

The monetary amount of court-ordered restitution payments for insurance fraud in Kentucky increased by 800 percent in 2016, according to a recent report from the Kentucky Department of Insurance's Fraud Division.

The department found court-ordered restitution increased from $369,762 in 2015 to more than $3 million in 2016.

"Fighting insurance fraud is one way to keep premiums lower," DOI Commissioner Brian Maynard told Insurance Business. "The Fraud Division is producing tangible results for the Commonwealth, making a difference for the residents of our state and showing Washington that insurance works when it's left to the state rather than out-of-state bureaucrats."
