Humana partners with Cohere Health on expanding digital authorization platform

Humana is scaling its Cohere Health-enabled musculoskeletal prior authorization platform from use in 12 states to the entire country.

Satisfactory results from the 95 percent of prior authorizations in the 12 preexpansion states led to the decision to go nationwide, according to an Oct. 13 news release.

The platform boasts a zero-minute median approval time, with 89 percent of patients requiring authorization being allowed to schedule procedures immediately. Much of this is done by pairing artificial intelligence with machine learning, according to the release.

"In just nine months, the results of Cohere's digital authorization platform have exceeded our expectations," said William Shrank, MD, CMO at Humana. "When we got started, we were looking for industry-leading electronic adoption, best-in-class physician experience, demonstrably better patient experiences, compelling medical and administrative return on investment, and rapid innovation. What is exciting is that these results reflect just the beginning. We look forward to reaching even farther and offering these results to more of our members and network partners."
