Humana launches oncology payment model

Humana unveiled a national payment model for oncology services for Medicare Advantage and commercial members.

The Oncology Model of Care program, announced April 16, will reimburse physicians based on incremental evaluation of quality and cost metrics. The targets include inpatient admissions, emergency room visits, medical and pharmacy drugs, lab and pathology services, and radiology.

More than 10 provider groups have already signed up for the model. A full list can be viewed here.

Humana's OMOC model is its fourth specialty care payment program. Humana Medicare Advantage members can also take part in episode-based programs for total hip or knee joint replacement or spinal fusion surgeries. Commercial members can participate in its maternity bundled payment program.
