Former ONC chief Karen DeSalvo, MD, has been elected to Humana's board of directors, the company announced Monday.
Here are five things to know about Dr. DeSalvo's appointment.
1. Dr. DeSalvo served at ONC from January 2014 until August 2016.
2. During that time, she was simultaneously the HHS assistant secretary from October 2014 until January 2017.
3. Prior to her federal government roles, Dr. DeSalvo served as the health commissioner for the city of New Orleans and before that, was a practicing internal medicine physician in New Orleans.
4. She also served as chief of general medicine and geriatrics and vice dean for community affairs and health policy at New Orleans-based Tulane University School of Medicine.
5. Dr. DeSalvo brings the number of Humana directors up to 12.
