Highmark: Members 'returning home' after UPMC feud

Highmark Health said it's seeing members rejoin the company after the insurer and rival UPMC ended a long contract feud last year, according to Trib Live.

Highmark CFO Saurabh Tripathi told the publication that almost 8 out of 10 seniors who dropped Highmark last year over fears of losing in-network access to UPMC have returned. The Pittsburgh-based organizations signed a 10-year agreement to end the feud.

"We have seen customers returning back home," Mr. Tripathi said. "We have seen good growth in senior [membership], and good growth in commercial."

Highmark reported roughly $18 billion in revenue in 2019, down almost $800 million from the previous year. Much of the drop is linked to Highmark's decision to sell its eye care business Visionworks, Mr. Tripathi told Trib Live.
