Connecticut pushes back on requested insurance rate hikes

While Connecticut is largely increasing health insurance rates, the increases aren't in line with what payers have been asking for.

Individual market average increases came in at 5.6 percent, which was down from insurers' hopes of an 8.6 percent increase, according to the Westchester and Fairfield County Business Journals.

Small group market increases also subverted payer expectations, as the expected increase of 12.9 percent fell short at 6.7 percent.

Rate reductions have saved Connecticut residents $173 million over the past two years, according to the state's insurance department.
