Community Healthcare, Anthem make amends with freshly inked contract

After cutting ties in December, Chicago-based Community Healthcare System and Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield confirmed reaching a multi-year contract agreement Wednesday, reports Chicago Tribune.

The renewed contract comes more than a month after the organizations announced they had terminated their one-year network contract, citing an inability to arrive at a fair and sustainable compromise.

"We are pleased to be able to reach a multi-year contract with Anthem honoring the choice of so many people in our community," Community Healthcare CEO John Gorski told Chicago Tribune. "The termination and prolonged contract negotiations have been a source of great concern for our patients and employer groups and for that we are truly sorry."

Under new contract provisions, Anthem will extend in-network coverage to customers who received medical treatment at Community Healthcare System hospitals during the intervening month of disrupted coverage.

"We did not want any of our patients to continue to be caught in the middle of this dispute," Mr. Gorski told Chicago Tribune. "We value the trust our patients have in us to do the right thing."
