CMS proposes modest pay hike for Medicare Advantage plans

CMS released its proposed changes Wednesday for the Medicare Advantage and Part D Prescription Drug Programs for 2018.

Under the proposal, health insurers that offer Medicare Advantage plans would receive a payment increase of 0.25 percent on average in 2018.

"This moderate growth is consistent with last year's update and reflects a similar pattern in Medicare fee-for-service," said CMS. "Plans that improve the quality of care they deliver to enrollees can see higher updates and can grow and enhance the benefits they offer to enrollees."

CMS will accept comments on the proposal through March 3, and the agency will announce the final payment rate April 3.
