CMS issued a final rule April 5 that updates Medicare Advantage and Part D prescription drug programs to increase seniors' telehealth benefits.
Under the new rule, Medicare Advantage plans can offer additional telehealth benefits as part of "basic benefits" that are funded by the government. The change begins in 2020.
CMS said this will allow seniors to receive healthcare services from their homes. The agency said the final rule allows "an even greater likelihood that these patients will have access to telehealth services from more providers and in more parts of the country than before, whether they live in rural or urban areas."
