Sen. Bernie Sanders, I-Vt., said March 26 he supports eliminating private health insurance companies, according to The Hill.
The 2020 Democratic presidential hopeful responded, "You're damn right" to a tweet from the Republican National Committee Research that stated Mr. Sanders wants to get rid of private health insurers.
The RNC's tweet referenced an earlier interview Mr. Sanders did with MSNBC, during which he said the "current system is incredibly dysfunctional and wasteful," and that universal healthcare won't work "unless you get rid of the insurance companies."
Mr. Sanders has previously said private health insurance companies should be eliminated, according to The Hill. Officials with the Trump administration oppose "Medicare for All," with CMS Administrator Seema Verma writing in a March 27 op-ed for The Wall Street Journal that the proposals would harm seniors' access to care by bringing all Americans into a system created to support older individuals.
