BCBS of Michigan to pay members up to $550 for healthcare shopping

Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan will pay more than 520,000 policyholders for shopping around for cheaper care, the health insurer said Sept. 18.

BCBS of Michigan hopes the initiative will incentivize members to engage with their care and become more aware about how much it costs.

Eligible preferred provider organization group members can participate by logging in to their online account and selecting from more than 140 nonemergency imaging and outpatient services that are available for price comparison and incentives. After claims are processed, members will receive an e-gift card ranging from $25 to $75. Each member can receive a total of $550 per year.
