Anthem reinstates rates for autism treatment after controversy

Anthem is restoring rates for autism therapies in Indiana it decreased in July, according to NBC affiliate WTHR.

The reverse comes after the news station investigated how Anthem's adjusted fee schedule for Applied Behavioral Analysis would affect some behavioral health providers. Some providers characterized the cuts as deep enough to induce closures.

While Anthem reinstated the cuts, on Dec. 1, the rate for one of the ABA therapies will drop from $15 per unit to $12.25 per unit. The adjustment is less than the original decrease. An Anthem spokesperson confirmed with WTHR that rates for the other code won't be reduced.
