The number of uninsured people and the uninsured rate were not statistically different in 2017 compared to 2016, according to a report from the Census Bureau.
The report found 8.8 percent of people, or 28.5 million, were uninsured at any point in 2017. That compares to 8.8 percent of people, or 28.1 million, in 2016.
The percentage of insured people was also not statistically different in 2017 compared to 2016. That percentage for all or part of 2017 was 91.2 percent, compared to the same rate in 2016, according to the report. Overall, the number of insured people increased by 2.3 million, up to 294.6 million, between 2016 and 2017.
Of the insured, 67.2 percent had private health insurance coverage and 37.7 percent had government coverage in 2017.
Additionally, the report showed 5.4 percent of children under age 19 were uninsured in 2017.
The Census Bureau's report was based on data from the 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017, and 2018 Current Population Survey Annual Social and Economic Supplements and the American Community Survey.
