Aetna in negotiations with 'several' states to relocate HQ

Hartford, Conn.-based Aetna intends to reach an agreement by early summer to move its headquarters, according to a Hartford Courant report.

"We are in negotiations with several states regarding a headquarters relocation, with the goal of broadening our access to innovation and the talent that will fill knowledge economy-type positions," the company told the publication Wednesday. "We remain committed to our Connecticut-based employees and the Hartford campus."

Aetna will likely move its headquarters and top executives to Boston or New York City, Democratic Connecticut Gov. Dannel Malloy and Hartford Mayor Luke Bronin said at a press conference Wednesday.

Mr. Malloy added he thinks the payer would move only "some number" of executives to the new headquarters and maintain the "vast majority" of its roughly 5,800 workers in the state, according to the report.

The insurer has been headquartered in Hartford for more than 150 years, the Hartford Courant reports.
