Aetna's plan to correct Medicaid payment and network deficiencies falls short, Kansas health officials said Aug. 13, according to local radio station KCUR.
The Kansas Department of Health and Environment recently notified Aetna that its Medicaid contract is in danger of being terminated for failing on the agreement. The agency gave Aetna until Aug. 7 to provide information on how it is dealing with such problems as complaints of delayed payments to hospitals and incorrect provider directories.
In a letter filed by Aetna with the state Aug. 7, the insurer said it has fixed several problems and is moving forward with other compliance plans. However, in a statement cited by KCUR, the health department said Aetna's reply doesn't "present a clear path to compliance."
Aetna, which covers about 100,000 beneficiaries in Kansas' privatized Medicaid system, will be able to address the health department's concerns again. The insurer requested an in-person meeting with state officials.
