Aetna-Humana merger receives approval from shareholders

Aetna's proposed $37 billion acquisition of Humana was approved by shareholders of both companies on Monday, according to Reuters.

Although the shareholders approved the proposed deal, the transaction is still facing some resistance. Two Humana shareholders filed a lawsuit to stop the merger from going through last week. A similar lawsuit was filed against Humana in July.

However, even with the shareholder lawsuits and the expectation that federal antitrust authorities will closely scrutinize the deal, Aetna and Humana anticipate the transaction will close in the second half of 2016, according to the report.
