Aetna CEO: Humana deal will close in 2016

At the J.P. Morgan Healthcare Conference, Aetna CEO Mark Bertolini said he believes the insurer's acquisition of Humana will close this year, according to The New York Times.

The $37 billion acquisition is currently being reviewed by the Department of Justice. Earlier this week, Reuters reported 15 state attorneys general have joined the DOJ's probe of the Aetna-Humana merger and the Anthem-Cigna merger.

"If we were to look at 2016, we have two things to do. Deliver our results and close our deal," Mr. Bertolini said during an interview at the conference, according to NYT. "So far, we have nothing to believe it will be any slower than that, or any faster."

The insurer believes DOJ regulators will finish their document requests within the next month. Anthem will then move into a discussion phase with the DOJ and consider any necessary divestitures.
