87% of individuals keep coverage purchased on public exchanges

HHS found 11.1 million — over 87 percent — of the 12.7 million Americans who purchased coverage on public health insurance exchanges in 2016 paid their premiums and maintained coverage, Business Insurance reported.

Of those with active health insurance, about 85 percent received federal subsidies available for those with incomes up to 400 percent of the 2016 federal poverty level, or $11,880 for individuals.

States with the highest number of people actively insured through public exchanges include Florida with 1,531,714, California with 1,415,428 and Texas with 1,092,650. States with the lowest number of people actively insured through public exchanges include Hawaii with 13,313, the District of Columbia with 17,666 and Alaska with 17,995 according to Kaiser Family Foundation State Health Facts.
