The House Ways and Means Committee last week approved 11 bills related to expanding health savings accounts, largely along party lines.
Among those approved by the committee are:
- R. 6301, which would allow high-deductible health plans to offer up to $250 in first-dollar coverage flexibility. This means people with HSA-eligible HDHPs could use up to $250 per year on services like chronic care management or telehealth before meeting their deductible.
- R. 6312, which would allow people with HSAs to use up to $500 a year for sports and fitness expenses, such as gym memberships or sports equipment. Golf, hunting, sailing and riding are not considered physical exercise under the bill.
- R. 6306, which would increase the amount that can be contributed to HSAs to the amount of a person's deductible and out-of-pocket limit. It also allows both spouses to make catch-up contributions to the same HSA.
