Pennsylvania's insurance commissioner said UPMC Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh would likely face state intervention if patients ever raise concerns about access to the facility, according to the Pittsburgh Business Times.
Pennsylvania Insurance Commissioner Jessica Altman told the Business Times she has not heard of any issues regarding UPMC Children's, and did not say exactly how she would respond if access issues arose.
In an article published by the Business Times, UPMC opposed a report stating that the hospital may deny access to Children's Hospital as its consent decree with Highmark comes to a close June 30. Their 20-year agreement for Children's Hospital is set to expire in 2022.
The organizations have spoken about a new contract and have talked with the Pennsylvania Department of Insurance on the matter. Still, an agreement has not surfaced, according to the report.
