Tennessee nurse aids crash victims after car chase

Traveling nurse Tonya Broughton jumped into action Sept. 4, after she found herself in the middle of a car chase in Nashville, Tenn., that ended in a fatal shooting and crash, according to WZTV Fox17

Ms. Broughton and her daughter pulled behind the crashed car, grabbed her stethoscope and ran to the wreck. "[I]t wasjust chaos," she told WZTV Fox17.

Ms. Broughton was one of the first people to help the injured men in the car. She said she keeps her stethoscope in the car in case of emergencies.

"We had to take knives and cut the airbags, because he was literally shoved down into the floorboard," Ms. Broughton told WZTV Fox17. "He wasn't breathing. Once we got him up out of the floorboard, he was gasping for air."

Law enforcement said the driver died from a gunshot wound. The passenger was rushed to the hospital with unspecified injuries. The two men had thousands of dollars in cash with them in the car. Police are still investigating why the two men were being chased, and no arrests have been made in the case.

"When you do my line of work, you want to make sure someone is OK. You're always going to try to save someone else," Ms. Broughton told WZTV Fox17. "You're always going to put someone else's needs before yours."
