Tanker truck wreck forces Georgia hospital to temporarily evacuate

Alia Paavola -

Dahlonega, Ga.-based Chestatee Regional Hospital was forced to evacuate early March 18 after a tanker truck carrying liquid oxygen flipped near the hospital, according to The Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

The accident occurred when a wheel from the oxygen-filled truck slid off the road, causing the tank carrying oxygen to detach and begin leaking.

Due to the potential for an explosion, emergency crews recommended evacuation for any place within a third of a mile from the crash site, including the hospital, according to CBS 46.

After the accident was cleared later on March 18, the evacuation was lifted and patients were taken back to the hospital.

The truck driver is okay and no injuries have been reported in the incident.
