Dallas-based Steward Health Care, a private, for-profit hospital operator, plans to reopen the former Florence (Ariz.) Hospital at Anthem, PinalCentral.com reported.

Steward operates hospitals in Arizona and eight other states.

Steward officials told the Florence City Council it plans to reopen the hospital  early next year under the name Florence Hospital, a Campus of Mountain Vista Medical Center, according to the report.

The former Florence Hospital at Anthem closed June 18 after entering bankruptcy.

Florence Hospital, a Campus of Mountain Vista Medical Center, will include a 24-hour emergency room, Steward officials said.

"We plan to provide other specialty services such as pulmonary, nephrology and urology, as well as cardiology services," said Gary Smith, MD, CMO of Steward in Arizona, according to the report. Hospitalists will work at the facility.

Patients with more complex needs will receive care at Mesa, Ariz.-based Mountain Vista Medical Center, another facility operated by the company, Steward officials said.
