Shriners Hospitals for Children-Twin Cities in Minneapolis is reportedly considering ending inpatient services at the facility, Fox 9 News reports.
A spokesperson for the hospital, which treats roughly 6,500 patients annually, told Fox 9 News Shriners is "evaluating alternative options for inpatient care, [but] the details or dates of any service change are not yet determined."
The spokesperson told the publication one of the "alternative options" under consideration is ending inpatient services altogether. It is unclear how the service changes would affect the hospital's estimated 150 employees.
Shriners Hospitals for Children-Twin Cities told Becker's Hospital Review in a statement Feb. 9, "Shriners Hospitals for Children-Twin Cities is evaluating alternative options for inpatient care. This effort is in recognition of the nationwide trend to more outpatient-oriented services while the need for overnight [inpatient] care declines. The details or dates of any service change are not yet determined."
