New York hospital to end outpatient behavioral health services

Anne-Marie Kommers -

Glens Falls (N.Y.) Hospital will no longer provide outpatient behavioral healthcare for patients in New York's Warren and Washington counties, according to The Post Star.

Hospital officials announced Aug. 21 that its outpatient behavioral health programs would be transferred to other nonprofit organizations. Staff members were informed of the decision Aug. 19 and told they could likely transfer to the new organizations.

Staff members told The Post Star the hospital's decision was due to financial concerns. The hospital has eliminated several departments and laid off 20 percent of its primary care providers over the past year.

The hospital said the decision was primarily due to an increased demand it could not meet, however.

"The need that exists today for outpatient behavioral health services is far greater than what Glens Falls Hospital can meet on their own," the hospital said in a press release. "The community and the needs of the patients Glens Falls Hospital services has changed tremendously."

The hospital will continue offering behavioral health services until it finds a new provider.
