Ayla Ellison -

Louisville-based Kindred Healthcare will close its transitional care hospital in Mishawaka, Ind., by the end of September, according to the South Bend Tribune.

According to a Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification Act notice filed with the state, Kindred will lay off Kindred Hospital Northern Indiana's 117 workers when it closes the facility.

"If any patients need continued care after the hospital closes, we will take every step necessary to help them in relocating, including arranging for requested transfers and paying for any expenses," Lori J. Skora, CEO of Kindred Hospital Northern Indiana, said in a release. "During the transition, we will continue to provide our patients with care and services and tend to their medical need."
