Hasbro Children's opens 6-bed short-stay unit to cut ED use

Morgan Haefner -

Providence, R.I.-based Hasbro Children's Hospital opened a short-stay unit for children requiring care for 12 to 24 hours to reduce unnecessary emergency department or hospital stays, according to The Herald News.

The six-bed pediatric clinical decision unit is intended for children with ailments such as asthma, gastroenteritis, dehydration, cellulitis, falls, pain, seizures, headaches and allergic reactions.

Since the unit opened in November, the hospital has seen decreased rates of return hospital visits and readmissions, according to the report.
