Fire at LA children's hospital prompts mass evacuation

Anne-Marie Kommers -

About 200 people were evacuated after a small fire broke out at Children's Hospital Los Angeles' main campus on Aug. 5, according to CW affiliate KTLA.

The fire began in a basement area under construction around 11:20 a.m. and sent smoke into other levels at the facility, according to the L.A. Fire Department. Fire crews and building engineers worked together to ventilate the facility after the fire was put out, which took 80 firefighters about an hour.

The incident did not affect patients elsewhere at the hospital, and no injuries were reported. Authorities are still investigating the fire's cause and the amount of damage it caused.
