Central Washington Hospital, a 198-bed a general medical and surgical facility in Wenatchee, Wash., plans to close its 22-bed transitional care center for aging patients, The Wenatchee World reported.
Hospital officials attributed the move to staffing needs. They said the closure will help fill 35 of the nearly 50 open nursing and nursing assistant positions in other areas of CWH.
The hospital will partner with private nursing home companies to take care of its aging patients, spokesperson Andrew Canning told The Wenatchee World.
"It comes down to there are people providing the service in the community and they do a great job," he said. "So, we are going to let them continue to do a great job, and we're going to shift our resources."
He said no transitional care center workers are expected to lose their jobs. Patient transfers are slated to begin Aug. 31 and end by Nov. 1.
