Morehead Memorial Hospital, a 108-bed nonprofit hospital in Eden, N.C., closed its Novant Health Oncology Specialists clinic June 28 before filing for Chapter 11 bankruptcy July 10, RockinghamNow reports.

The Novant Health clinic, housed in the hospital's Smith McMichael Cancer Center, opened in December 2014. In a statement to RockinghamNow, Winston-Salem, N.C.-based Novant Health said the "difficult decision was reached in determining how best to meet the healthcare needs of this community."

Morehead Memorial Hospital and its cancer center will continue to offer radiation oncology, oncology surgeries, pathology, rehabilitation services, cancer screenings and educational services, according to the report.

Affected patients are seeking care at Reidsville, N.C.-based Annie Penn Hospital's Cone Health Cancer Center.
