An unidentified person seized an ambulance in Austin, Texas, Sunday afternoon as medics treated a patient in the back of the vehicle, according to an Austin-American Statesman report.

First responders with Austin-Travis County Emergency Medical Services were assisting a patient when someone accessed the front of the vehicle and drove off at a high speed and intermittently used the siren. One medic continued to treat the patient while the other informed EMS communications of their location on a minute-by-minute basis, which was relayed to Austin police.

Medics said the driver took the ambulance a couple miles south of downtown Austin, parked in an apartment complex parking lot and ran away. Another ambulance arrived to transport the patient, as the hijacked vehicle was investigated as a crime scene, according to Fox 7

On Monday police told the Austin-American Statesman there were no further updates to report. This is the second time in December someone attempted to steal an ATCEMS ambulance.
