Amita Health cuts services at 3 Illinois hospitals

Ayla Ellison -

Amita Health is scaling back services at three Illinois hospitals due to low utilization, according to Crain's Chicago Business, which cited applications filed with the state.

Three things to know:

1. Lisle, Ill.-based Amita acquired Presence Health, a 10-hospital system based in Chicago, in March. The health system is seeking to cut services at three former Presence hospitals due to a decline in utilization.

2. Amita Health plans to discontinue physical rehabilitation services at St. Joseph Hospital in Chicago. Admissions to the physical rehabilitation unit declined 40 percent last year, according to the report.

3. Amita Health plans to discontinue heart surgery programs at St. Francis Hospital in Evanston, Ill., and St. Mary of Nazareth Hospital in Chicago, according to Crain's Chicago Business.

Amita Health did not respond to Becker's request for comment.
